- Reduce, reuse, always recycle, and help control litter by disposing of trash properly. As you explore Hāna, help preserve the ‘aina (land) by leaving it more beautiful than you found it.
- Stay on marked paths, obey no trespassing signs (kapu), leave rocks and sand where you found them (don’t risk the curse), and leave all plants and flowers for everyone to enjoy.
- Although all coastlines are owned by the State of Hawaii, there are some roads or portions of roads that access the coast but are private, or border private land. Many parking lots and access points are on private property and owners are burdened by the increase in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. With so many visitors treading on Hāna on a daily basis, there is constant wear and tear on the fragile landscape.

- If you want fruit or flowers, keep your eyes out for the donation boxes and flower stands on the side of the highways.

- Stay safe by driving defensively on the Hāna Highway. This means heed the warning signs by yielding at all one-lane bridges, and let locals pass. If a local driver is tailgating a vehicle, or a car is flashing it’s lights or honking the horn, this is because they want to pass your car. Please yield to the more knowledgeable locals. Keep your eyes out for wider road segments and pull-off’s to allow for safe passing, and continue to enjoy your drive at your own pace. Also, please, never drink and drive.
